08:06 AM ET 07.20 | Jared Allen has drawn his line in the turf. Before Vikings rookie left tackle Matt Kalil can line up against [Allen] in training camp, Allen wants to make sure Kalil knows his place. In an interview on NBC SportsTalk, Allen said that his instructions for Kalil will be simple: No holding, no illegal hands to the face, defer to the veteran and there won't be any practice-field fights. "Just don't touch me," Allen said. "I'm too old to deal with overzealous rookies right now. Keep your hands out of my face, don't grab my jersey and we won't have to fist fight. That's pretty much what it is." As the best player on a bad team, Allen said he knows no one is predicting big things for the Vikings this year, but he doesn't mind.

Since you play like you practive (<flips quater to Vince Lombardi>) not touching the defensive guy lined up against you is probably a pretty bad idea!

Put a skirt on this fool!

Did he tell Danny DeVito to keep his hands off, too? Love that picture.

I think his tampon string is showing.

He reminds me of Psycho in Stripes. "If any of you **** touch me, I'll kill you."

Sounds like the words of a man who wants to coast through training camp.

Why not? This is a team that's going nowhere, not even to LA. He'd might as well coast through the whole season. No point in getting hurt if your team is going to go 4-12.

Matt Kalil: "Lighten up, Francis".

Kalil needs to ignore Allen and do whatever he would usually do. If Allen's really that good then Kalil shouldn't cause him any problems, right? We'll see...

July 20, 2012  09:29 AM ET

Kalil does need to learn to do his job against NFL defenders without holding or illegal hands to the face. The Vikings are going to make few enough positive-yardage plays this year without having a few called back for O-line penalties.

July 20, 2012  09:35 AM ET

This is noting more than a vet telling a rookie how it is and will be. Being the number one pick Kalil has nothing to prove or gain by doing any of this stuff in practice.

July 20, 2012  09:37 AM ET

Too funny! That's how a rookie should be treated until he earns his stripes. I don't know why some people are so freakin' sensitive and make it a bit deal.

I got my popcorn ready to see if Kalil takes Jared's advice or not.

Considering that Allen and Peterson are the only reasons for anyone to bother watching a Vikes game, it wouldn't surprise me if they put red shirts on both of them in practice

Don't pay him no mind rook... Put him on his a-s-s- in practice a few times to show him you're no punk... respect has to be earned in this league and what better way to earn it then to put it to a top 3 Defensive end in football in practice all year... take your lumps and don't back down son...

Couldnt agree more. I get sick and tired of hearing players act like primadonnas. Football is a contact sport, if you don't like it, go play curling or golf.
