08:14 AM ET 07.20 | For the first time this season, Pablo Sandoval put on a first baseman's glove Thursday, taking over first in the eighth inning after Bruce Bochy pinch-hit Justin Christian for Brandon Belt. And yes, [Bruce Bochy] and his staff, frustrated over the lack of production at the position, will discuss the idea of playing Sandoval at first base more often. "We'll see," Bochy said. "We'll talk about it on the plane." Putting Sandoval at first base would mean having Joaquin Arias' bat in the lineup with Belt on the bench. ... [It] might open another avenue for GM Brian Sabean to bolster the lineup. If he can't acquire a first baseman ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, what about a third baseman?

Chase Headley would be a nice addition, but I don't see the Padres trading him within the division. Dodger could use him, too.

Third basemen are harder to find than first baseman. Does this mean they have given up on Belt?

Belt is incredibly frustrating. Lots of talent, but he can't seem to pull it all together consistently.

Yes, it seems strange. Sandoval is an average defensive 3rd baseman and a very good hitter. Arias is above average in the field, but he can't hit a lick. You would think some decent hitting first basemen would be available and would do more for the club. Maybe they could get Aubrey Huff back

How about Scott Rolen?

nice. Wishful thinking though--he is hitting worse than Arias, is injury prone, and is likely done.

The Giants had an opportunity to make a deal for Kevin Youkilis.
Say what you want about Kenny Williams, the White Sox GM. He has cojones. He has been blasted the last couple of years for acquiring Jake Peavy and Adam Dunn and Alex Rios, but those guys are leading the way for the Sox this year. And Kevin Youkilis, who was acquired on the cheap, has helped.
Several teams, such as the Reds and the Giants, could have had him, but didn't act.
