08:15 AM ET 07.20 | Considering where we find the Dodgers and Cubs in their organizational cycles, there's no doubt they make for ideal trade partners. The Dodgers never did look like a first-place team, and now aren't performing like it either. So, it was without fanfare that the Cubs and Dodgers all but fell into each other's arms this week, and by Thursday were having somewhat constructive conversations about swapping Dempster for prospects. The market for Dempster is broad, however, and the Dodgers figure to be challenged for the pitcher by the likes of the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves, in particular. The Cubs, meantime, acquired 29-year-old right-hander Justin Germano from the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

The Dodgers are going to stay desperate because they don't have enough good minor league players to be trade partners.

The Flubs should trade both Garza and Dempster as they rebuild.

I believe they will. Dempster first, then Garza, then maybe Maholm, then maybe Soriano, then maybe Marmol...etc

And you know this for a fact?? You might want to check the Dodgers' minor league standings.

Nothing like overpaying for the MLB leader in ERA

Not to be contrary, but just because their players are performing in the minors doesn't mean they're major league ready.

They will have to eat much of Soriano's contract.

I hope they try it--in that park, he could still be successful

He is in the way of developing talent, and this year he is hitting well enough to be worth a little bit in return; pay the money, get a suspect or two, and get him out of the way.

the phillies need to be fair to cole hamels,, a 6 year 150 million deal would be the best offer for hamels after all the pitcher has been more depenable than lee or halladay,,,

July 20, 2012  10:08 PM ET

Dodgers need to find a way to have good pitching and good hitting on the same night......

He's 117 - 120 for his career with a 4.32 ERA. He had a 4.81 ERA last year. Teams will be overpaying.
