08:26 AM ET 07.20 | Surprising though it may have been to Nashville, Ryan Suter's deal in Minnesota probably didn't help the Predators with Shea Weber. Weber has a more complete resume than Suter. He's an Olympic gold medalist, a two-time Norris Trophy finalist and team captain. The seeds of this summer of discontent probably were sewn last offseason. Weber's contract was up, and he was slated to be a restricted free agent. ... [Weber] said that he wanted a deal to stay in Nashville. Then the Predators filed for arbitration with Weber to prevent him from being signed to an offer sheet. Weber's camp asked for an $8.5 million award, and the Predators countered with $4.75 million. The arbitrator gave Weber $7.5 million.

The Preds are a typical small market team. Draft well, pick up a bargain or too and hope to win a single Cup before the team is ripped apart by the moneyed teams up north. They had a nice team these past two years, wait till 2017. Next up: Who wants Rinne?
