08:29 AM ET 07.20 | Not far removed from going ice fishing in his western Canadian territory hometown of Nunavut, Jordin Tootoo landed a big one in the form of a contract from the Red Wings. For now, Tootoo is warming up to his new surroundings. After signing a three-year, $5.7 million free-agent contract with the Red Wings on July 1, the scrappy forward arrived in town Wednesday to meet with the training staff and look for a place to live. The 5-foot-9, 199-pound right wing who spent his entire eight-year NHL career in Nashville slipped on his No. 22 Red Wings jersey for the first time. ... "My ultimate goal is winning. I'm going to do whatever it takes. I'm fortunate to have that little spark in me that drives teams nuts. I think it's going to be a great thing here."

Oh, we will. This is not Avery we're talking about here. And, it's not like we're counting on him to carry the team on his back for us. All we want him to do is a little of what Holmstrom used to do and, the rest of the time? Be a pest. The Wings are mature enough to handle him.

They're not too accurate with their geography Santa. Nunavut is a territory not a town and comprises a lot of Northern Canada not Western.

It was that hot for three straight weeks here. Thankfully, Nunavut is far, far from here.

Feels awful. It's more of a confused heat...it's not sure whether to be dry or overly humid. I believe it wants to be humid, as is the norm, but there's just no damn water anywhere...or dam water for that matter.
