09:49 AM ET 07.21 | Tony Romo reached out to his receiver Dez Bryant. While he never confirmed if actually talked to Bryant, he did have a few things to say about the current situation. "I reached out to Dez, and it's obviously a tough situation, and you just learn, like everybody does," Romo said NFL Total Access. "Dez is a good kid. He's going to learn from this situation. And it's just part of growing and becoming who he wants to be. "I think that each year he gets better and better at understanding that he's in the public eye, and certain things he's got to think about. I'm just there for him. You know, you pray for him and you let him know that I'm here. I got his back, and he knows that."

Romo has Dez's back

Nothing like backing a good physical assault.

It's just lip service, bro. Romo knows Dez is needed if America's Team is going to make the playoffs.

Dez hit his own mother in the face.

1. That doesn't make him a "good kid"
2. I should hope to God that's not part of him "becoming who he wants to be"

Maybe his mom was up in his grill.

Who's Got Your Back Tony?

I'm tired of the media making excuses for Dez because of his circumstances growing up. Like growing up poor means you don't get a chance to learn right from wrong. Like he didn't get a chance to learn right from wrong at OkState. The media should stop making excuses for this tool.

I think he left a map of Hawaii there...

Romo is partially right ... Dez is a KID.

He hasn't dedicated himself to his profession. He's a streetballer who doesn't study his opponents and doesn't know where he's supposed to be if the ball isn't coming to him.

What he needs to do is completely cut this so-called mother of his out of his life.

I'm guessing that Romo was asked to comment on the situation. And unlike Bryant, he is aware that everything he says will be subject to public scrutiny--even if he says nothing, the lack of comment will be construed as criticism. But it was Romo, not the media, who decided to make excuses for Bryant. The media asked a question about a controversial issue, stuck a microphone in his face, and hoped something dumb would come out of his mouth. They were not disappointed.

Maybe your mom needs to hit you in the face. Perhaps it would knock some sense into you.
