No Astros off-limits for trade talks

10:32 AM ET 07.21 | Nobody is off-limits. When you mercifully summarize a trade that involved four big leaguers, five minor leaguers and a player to be named, that's the take-away you get from the Astros' end. As they continue to dismantle a major league roster that's on pace for another 100-loss season in order to keep building their farm system, nobody is off-limits. You don't have to be a franchise player like Lance Berkman, Roy Oswalt, Hunter Pence and Michael Bourn were when their trades got this process moving. Or even a big contract like Carlos Lee. The Astros are willing to give up anything if they can get talent down the line, and that's why Brandon Lyon, J.A. Happ and David Carpenter were shipped to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday for reliever Francisco Cordero, outfielder Ben Francisco and what will amount to five minor leaguers when the final player is shipped.

They should just shut this team down rather than move them to the AL. They're horrible and exist only to groom talent for other teams and pad their opponents' win totals.

the astros had have been doing this type of approach for the last 4 years or so, to rebuild and develope as much players through their minor league system to me this its the right thing to do, in the long run this franchise would be as a strong as steel, plus when you develope talent through the minor league system you would have a great dividends in your payrroll, when you sign all this prospects to a 1 millions or 5 millions 5 years deal its a win win situation for this franchise!!!

July 21, 2012  10:49 AM ET

in old saying goes, you have to sacrifice and become weak before you can become a strong a a silidify team, you have to fold yourself in half in order to regroup and grow, new seeds are the new players development and it shouldn't be take it lightly, and as long the astros stop shipment every major league to the other teams when the houston finally reach their goal in top skilled players then this team could become another serious contender as its tampa bay rays now!!

I would think they will even trade City's with anybody!

July 21, 2012  11:19 AM ET

houston would be a tough contender in the near future in about 3 years from now??

Hard to remember that the Astros used to be a factor in the NL Central nearly every year

July 21, 2012  12:53 PM ET

even if we still thinking that the astros are nothing but a joke, this team would be moved to the west and would become a nightmare to the halos after all the mariners are the mocking team in the west and they aren't been expected to be a top contenders for another 5 years or so!!

July 21, 2012  12:58 PM ET

the lowly team the A's are playing good baseball, good pitching an a greedy offense has kept the A's above 500 team, a team who has nothing to lose because they lack in to have their own stadium and to their lowest payrroll in the majors, but that hasn't stop those pesky A's from given a fight to any tough team!!!

July 21, 2012  01:02 PM ET

in every division its always good to have a tough competetor but if you don't any difficult team in your own division you tend to relax a little bit too much, then most likely that tough team would collapse at the first round in the playoffs why?? because they didn't have any pressure from their own division!!!

July 21, 2012  01:04 PM ET

the giants are a tough team only when they feel like, and i know that if this team sets his mind in achievements and goals the giants do have the pitching and the offense to be a serious contender!!!

July 21, 2012  01:06 PM ET

the red sox do have more problems than solutions, a manager who has try everything and still can't be above waters, the injuries and the poor pitching in their rotation has played a major role in their decline as a team!!!

July 21, 2012  01:11 PM ET

the royals are a weak team either their pitching its playing passive games or their manager has got too comfortable in the front seat, you can't call yourself a competetor when you don't even try to improve your job as a manager this royal team seems as if a blind manager its leading this team to a dark hole where nobody can't even see them any more!!

July 21, 2012  01:16 PM ET
QUOTE(#13):

the royals

this team do not lack in talent, and they do not lack in pitching rather they lack in commitment they can't just play just for fun, this team lacks in their discipline at the plate and lacks alot in their pitching as its the rotation and their bullpen, the owner should clean that house a bring somebody who really show some respect for the game, by playing as if this would be their last game by playing soo hard that the players really show their hungry for a title not just in words but in actions as well!!!

July 21, 2012  01:18 PM ET

if the royals still playing the same type of baseball by next year, then they need to trade every tough hitter and tough pitchers to their contenders after all this franchise has mocked their fans and their owner for far too long!!!

July 21, 2012  01:21 PM ET

the cubs, astros, seatle, padres, twins, royals, blue jays, marlins, have been mocking their fans and their owners as the biggets joke in the big leagues!!!

July 21, 2012  01:23 PM ET

angels need to upgrade their pitching IF they really are serious about been tough contenders,
their catching its the worse spot in the majors,

July 21, 2012  01:27 PM ET

in the halos we need more than mike trout, we need everybody to step up not only one player,
there its no way out right now to regret the signing from pujols but rather the team should pull together and forget if pujols do contribute or not, lets just play as if we never can count on pujhols at all

July 21, 2012  01:28 PM ET

the indians are a wishy washy team, with that type of mentality you can't fool the league, you either play hard baseball or don't play hard at all!!

July 21, 2012  01:33 PM ET

the phillies have the tools to compete but it seems as if they have fold themselfs in half way too earlier, this team needs to change their negative mentality to a positive mentality why quit before the end of the season?? why stop from been a tough contenders so suddenly?? show some respect for yourselfs and play hard a serious baseball!!!
