One coaching candidate who is off the Falcons' list is USC's Pete Carroll. Though Arthur Blank spoke to Carroll about his interest in joining the Falcons, the courtship was short-lived. New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has turned down requests to interview for head-coaching jobs, including one by the Falcons.

Smart move, Pete.

Rex ryan is the answer for the head coaching job in Atlanta...

Grossedout9 ..I agree. He was never going there. Not now. He may return to the pro game someday, but he had mixed reviews there, he has it made right where he is. Besides, the Falcons don't need a coach, they need a SURGE....lol

Good hair though

As long as we're going to have a Carroll article everyday, can we at least have a decent picture?

January 13, 2008  09:38 AM ET

That one's awful and they keep using it.

That was a no brainer. But that's about all Blank makes...no brainers.

A sigh of relief from this Trojans fan...

What a shock. Carroll would leave USC for the Atlanta Falc-u[ps? C'mon.

why ruin a good thing....?

January 13, 2008  07:17 PM ET

This is easy. The Falcons will hire the Indianapolis Colts Assistant Head Coach within a week!

January 13, 2008  09:02 PM ET

It was a good move for both. No way do you add a guy who's been in college for so long and give him GM responsibilities. There are so few who can manage it all, and those who do wind up losing them or their families.

Boy was this a surprise - NOT! Arthur Blank needs to sell his interest in the team as who in their right mind wants to try to make that team competitive. Sure there are challenges in building a team, but its gonna take several years before that group can be competitive. There are many many holes in that team that need filling, starting with a proven QB. Now there are some backups around the NFL that are available, but if Blank wants to keep the team, he's best get out his wallet, hire a GM who knows what he's doing and get the heck out of the way!

Dungy is talking about retiring either this year or next year, if the Asst. head Coach at Indy has any sense, he'll wait for Dubgy to step down in either 08 or 09.

Dungy
