10:50 AM ET 07.22 | UFC president Dana White was in a foul mood duing a post-fight interview with FUEL TV Saturday night after UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao. When asked about some officiating issues on the card, White gave a powerful comment. "Officiating these days is gonna kill combat sports," White said. "We are talking about experienced (refs) doing this for a long time. It's not just MMA, boxing too (is having issues with officials)." White was critical during the Cheick Kongo-Shawn Jordan contest, as he felt like referee Yves Lavigne should have made them engage more than he did.

Officiating has always been a problem for contact sports, especially boxing. This is nothing new.

refs shouldn't be forcing them to "engage"....their contract status should motivate them to do that...but if a guy wants to get in that cage and be cautious, then he should be permitted to...if it goes to decision, the judges can have a say in it, not the ref.....if fans don't like it, their demands will play out in contracts not being renewed...but whatever happens, the events inside the cage should be real for whatever they may be, not forced.....

Dana White should stick to promoting and marketing...and let the fighters fight and the referees ref. He's worse than Goodell sometimes!

Maybe Yves Lavigne just fell asleep, just like the rest of us...that was such a lousy card that I imagine there were a few happy chuckles from the boxing world.
The prelim fights were good, but the PPV card was horrible. The boos started early and got louder and louder... deservedly so.
I really thought White would come out apologizing and criticizing the fighters, not the referees.

A plus comment. If you aren't doing anything illegal during the fight then you should get to fight any style you like. To force the action for entertainment purposes sullies the results and pushes UFC closer to the side-show that once was rather than the sport that it wants to become.

Maybe Mr. White was thinking about the boxing officials at the Olympics. Seems every Olympiad has a new scandal regarding the boxing contests, and this one is no exception.
