08:10 AM ET 07.23 | The Dwight Howard saga has claimed some collateral damage in the form of Luis Scola, who was amnestied by the Houston Rockets. "[They] believed they needed to go young," Scola said. "They told me they don't think they're going to be doing nothing in the next 3-4 years, which is when I'm going to be a player. They're trying to go younger, and they're looking 3-4 years ahead." Did they say it was a signal they were going to get Dwight Howard? "I don't know. I don't know that much." Did they mention him? "No, they didn't. But I know they're looking for him. And I know they told me they may need to clear some cap for something that comes up. But I don't know for a fact," Scola said.

If Scola is the victim, Asik is the benefactor. I've seen that stiff play enough times to know he's not worth over $8 mill a season.

I actually do think that Asik will be able to provide tough defense inside. He is overpaid, but you know, big men always get overpaid, its not his fault

I have nothing but love for Asik, he did a heck of a job in Chicago; but definitely overpaid on this one. He's the type of guy who will get you solid 20-minute games, but will leave you shaking your head on at least 1-2 plays per night.

My goodness, is he now called "The Dwight Howard"?

I like Scola...good player.
But FN has to stop quoting players that can't speak; "...they don't think they're going to be doing nothing ..."

He's an English teachers nightmare.

Scola is a good player and a steal at $3.3mil/yr for the Suns. I was surprised that Houston did not try to trade him before the ac action (maybe they did, but did not seem like much of an effort).

Houston is rebuilding and Scola will be 35 at the end of this contract. Since they want to go young, makes sense they would let him go, whether Howard was a factor or not.
