New frontrunner for Dempster

08:14 AM ET 07.23 | Ryan Dempster remains a hot topic on the trade market. [Dempster's] first choice, the Los Angeles Dodgers, have cooled on trading for him, creating an opening for his second choice, the Atlanta Braves. The Braves remain firmly in the mix for Dempster, though no deal was close as of late Sunday afternoon. ... Two other teams interested in Dempster -- the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals -- share the same reservations as the Dodgers about parting with better prospects for a player who is a free agent at the end of the season. Dempster's preference is to remain in the National League. A poor outing by right-hander Jair Jurrjens against the Nationals on Sunday might only have reinforced the Braves' desire to trade for a quality starter.

would like to see them get Dempster b/c they need him in the rotation...desperately. not sure what's wrong with JJ, but they can't afford to just 'run him out there' every fifth day, hoping he'll magically acquire velocity and location on his pitches. he is this year's Derek Lowe.

i'm not completely sold on Greinke. not saying he's not a good pitcher, but his monster salary is a big issue. i've also heard he's a head case, don't need that either.

If I am Atlanta, I think they have too many injuries to throw much at a pitcher who is having a great season but is not a great pitcher. Hanson is hurt, JJ just hasn't been himself all year, Beachy is out, Minor, Delgado & Teheran have not performed well. So, adding Dempster makes him your number 2 after Hudson. Hardly awe-inspiring heading into the post season. Especially for a 2-3 month rental.

WHYYYYYYY cant they just stick Medlin in the rotation already. Ill take Demps if we dont have to pay much. So he can take Minors spot and Medlin can take JJ's spot.

Sorry its Medlen cant spell this am

Our middle relief would be pretty bad if we didn't have Medlen in there. I'd love to see Medlen in the rotation, but unless we also trade a good middle reliever, he's too valuable out of the pen, especially since our pitchers rarely reach the 7th inning.

Minor has been in a nice groove lately. I Multiple solid starts in a row. His confidence is very high right now. I feel safe with Minor in the rotation. But I would like to see Dempster or another pitcher take JJ's spot.

Demp isn't going to the Braves, Theo Einstein is just using them to reel the Dodgers in, and the Dodgers are doing likewise to the Cubs by feigning interest in other players. The Braves ain't got a thing that we need, and what we need is pitching help; if you're going to trade your best pitcher, at least get a couple pitching prospects in return ...

Really, I wouldn't mind having a playoff rotation(if we make the the playoffs of course) of Hudson, Sheets and Dempster. Wouldn't be the scariest stat wise, but 3 veterans that can handle the nerves of postseason pitching.

The Dodgers have nothing to offer. The Braves are loaded with young pitching talent. I don't want to part with them, but it looks like we'll have to if we're gonna land anybody before July 31st.

I think the Dodgers were serious when they said they wouldn't give up their top pitching prospect for a 2 months rental...Dempster has already said he'd like to re-sign with the Cubs in the off season....
