PSU may wish it received 'death penalty'

08:21 AM ET 07.23 | Penn State is certain to be reduced over the near term to something much less than it once was on the football field. The question then will be not whether Penn State can play football, it will be whether the school will have the will. A picture is being painted of a program so stripped of grants that it could be physically impossible to play on an FBS -- never mind Big Ten -- level. The next decision at Penn State: Whether to play football at all for a period of years. ... While these penalties won???t be a classic death penalty where a program is shuttered, one source said the school may wish it had chosen the death penalty when the sanctions are announced.

There was plenty of discussion and speculation about PSU sanctions on sports talk radio over the weekend. The bubbas who only care about football were doing their usual whine about the NCAA rulebook. One bubba compared Mark Emmert to Roger Goodell and the radio journalists ran with that concept for a couple of hours. Never mind the perpetrators, the cover-up to protect the football program and the complete lack of institutional control.

LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL!!! The cover-all for the NCAA. This is not about football, this is about integrity and the lack of caring for human beings.

That's less than 30% of the donations the football program received in FY 2012.

Sorry, that's TOTAL donations not just football donations. But it still puts the $60 mil in perspective IMO.
PSU's profit from football was $53 mil last year. So they're basically taking away the profit.

Still an unprecedented fine, if you ask me. You'd notice a loss of 60 million, I know Alabama would.

Loss of schollys will really hurt.
If I heard it right....10 next year, then 20 per year for the next 3?
Penn State must also reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period, the release said.
