08:25 AM ET 07.23 | Perhaps Alexander Semin winds up rocking the red in another city. If [Shane Doan] decides to remain in Phoenix or chooses another destination to finish his career, Detroit could still make a pitch for [Semin], who remains unsigned three weeks since free agency started. Semin, who has averaged 31 goals over the past six season with the Washington Capitals, would like a long-team deal from a team, but may have to accept something short term, since there is a huge question mark about his commitment. ... But the line seems to be forming for Semin, starting with Carolina. Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford told the News and Observer that they have expressed interest in Semin, but added they "wouldn't want to get locked in to anything."

Perhaps a very short line. I can understand teams offering him a contract because he has great hockey talent. Willingness to work hard and play during tough times? Not so much. If he's signed I would imagine a short term contract, a lot less guaranteed money and heavy on incentives.

That's how all contracts should be.
I just hope this isn't Detroit getting desperate, they're too good a franchise for this nonsense

It's desparate if they sign him to more than a year. With the money they've got available, and missing out on the FAs they coveted, a one year deal wouldn't be much of a risk. Hopefully it would be a stop gag until next year, when they try to fill holes better.

Did I just use "stop gag" in a Semin thread?

If he never developed any chemistry with AO in Washington, can Dastyuk have a positive influence on him? Interesting proposition.
