08:27 AM ET 07.23 | It wasn't long ago that Predators Chairman Tom Cigarran made a pledge that will be put to the test this week. Citing more home sellouts, improved season ticket renewal rates, increased luxury suite sales and expanding corporate support, Cigarran said earlier this summer that the club's budget for the upcoming season would be larger than ever before, and "we're not going to lose players because of money. The only way we'll lose them is if there's some chemistry issue, or their grandmother lives in Montreal or something, the intangibles," Cigarran said at the time. "But they know we're competitive, and they know we're committed after this season, so we're in a really good place."

Prepare yourselves for a "what I meant to say" type of press conference.

For an "intangible" he forgot to mention that someone might go to another team with a chance of winning.

I'm interested in doing an informal poll.

Years ago when Ottawa was in a similar situation (can't afford both) with Chara and Redden it was common knowledge here in Bruins land that Boston was hot for one of them. At the time I wanted them to go after Redden because he was a much smoother skater and most of the other stats were quite similar.

Well it turns out I was wrong in a big way and it seems as though Chara was carrying Redden during their years together.

The (compound) question is; will one of the duo of Suter/Weber flop without the other and which one?

I wonder the same, and incluce Rinna in that mix as well.
And I for one, wish The Bruins HAD taken redden!

Could be Rinne has been carrying both of them.

I'm glad that Redden went to NY. He looks good in that minor league uni ;)

Those are the multi-million dollar questions....not that it makes a whole lot of difference but Weber did/does wear the "C" so I would give him the slight lead. They don't hand those out for nothing.

I don't think that at all.
All things being equal? I'd take that really tall guy in Boston right now, though I do like my team's defence corps as a whole unit

Me too, but I obviously have some bias there. For nearly 30 minutes a night Chara and whatever partner Julien gives him shuts down the opposing top line better than anyone in the game right now.

The Bishop will tell you that confession is good for the soul, Rex.

My two cents worth? I think those two made each other better. But, I also think Weber will do better without Suter than Suter without Weber.
