08:14 AM ET 07.24 | That familiar No. 51 is gone, replaced in Seattle swiftly by Ichiro wearing a Yankees uniform and the No. 31. Few saw the trade coming, but it had been in the works since shortly after the All-Star break, when Ichiro's agent approached the Mariners to say his client was interested in being traded. Tony Attanasio said Ichiro first broached the possibility "months ago." "We were just looking to see what the right time was, and when the kids coming up were able to carry the club," Attanassio said. "He knows the club has to grow. He knows the younger players need more playing time. The only way he knows how to do that is to move on, because he doesn't want to stop playing."

If I was in the Yankees lineup I'd automatically become a better hitter cause there is no pressure on me especially hitting in the #8 spot. Now insert one of the greatest hitters in the last decade+ and the writing is on the wall for a reinvigorated Ichiro to bump up his OBP by a good 30pts thus adding fastballs to the pitches Jeter Cano Arod and Tex will see. With Ichiro on base, not too many offspeed pitches are gonna be thrown cause that's like giving Ichiro second base. I think this is a very good move for both parties. ESPECIALLY with Gardner out for the season. Very good hitter. Base stealing threat. Great glove. Great OF range... and for Ichiro, being on the Yankees means, here comes the playoffs and a possible World Series Ring.

I think he'll give the Yanks a bit more than what he gave the Mariners this year. He'll be a good part, but starting pitching is still where New York needs help.

A new Asian sensation in the BIG apple. Go Yankees! The Red Sox are coming up, let's do work and increase our lead over Texas.

The Mariners should have traded this guy over the winter when he had more value. I think the M's clubhouse will be better now without the egocentric Asian guy.

Leaving the Mariners was his choice but why the damm Yankees. I am sick of the the best team that money buy. MLB needs a hard salary cap!

The Yankees are only picking up $2m of his salary the rest of the year. Any team could've had him.

As much fun as watching your team cough up the last 2 WS against inferior teams.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have more World Series championships than the Rangers. Let that marinate a while as you watch footage of the last two World Series debacles your team has been a part of.

Your avatar brings me back to the first full year I was interested in Baseball. Tigers ruled until the Sept. series at old Yankee stadium. With Ichiro they can only get better.
