08:16 AM ET 07.24 | Oakland may be willing to add another piece to a puzzle that has worked out remarkably well this season. The amazing A's are the latest team to have joined the derby for Chase Headley, the fine young Padres third baseman who is coveted by a long list of teams. The Pirates, Indians, Orioles, Diamondbacks and Dodgers have long been known to have interest in Headley, whose age (28), reasonable salary ($3.4) million and varied sills make him popular. The interest has been even higher than the Padres anticipated. The A's have become a buyer in consideration of their incredible run into the playoff picture. Thus far they view the price tage on Headley as too high in terms of prospects. ... [San Diego has] a top third-base prospect Jedd Gyorko.

D Backs probably make the most sense. They have young talent, which San Diego wants.

I dont understand why this guy is in such high demand. Just because He's under team control should not hide the fact this guy is mediocre at best.

Avg is 64 points higher, OPS 150 higher, 101 more hits, better power numbers. PETCO sucks the life out of him but he is above average everywhere else.

Good points; Oakland might be just as bad, though. Baltimore would be a nice place for him to play, or Arizona with the dry air as "the best policy" suggested.

I agree with Oakland. Baltimore would be a nice fit. Then they could platoon Reynolds at 1/3B and push Betemit to the bench.
