08:24 AM ET 07.24 | New York swung a deal on Monday for Rick Nash while keeping much of its young core intact. The Rangers also got minor-league defenseman Steven Delisle and a conditional third-round pick in the 2013 draft, but the prize was left wing Nash, a 6-4, 219-pound, power forward who has averaged 32 goals in nine NHL seasons. ... The Rangers are still $13.4 million under the current salary cap and just met with free-agent veteran winger Shane Doan on Friday. Nash's acquisition does not mean the Rangers are finished this offseason. "That's purely speculation at this point in time, but it doesn't eliminate the opportunity to try and pursue someone else at this stage," said Rangers GM Glen Sather. "That's about all I can tell you."

I'm guessing Slats had a very nice victory cigar last night while his fellow Rangers execs pointed and laughed at a photo of Scott Howson.

I'm guessing 9read that as HOPING) that maybe realisng they have the "D" part covered, Torts now let's loose...albeit not all the way...with some of the firepower? They can now roll 4 pretty good lines with anyone else in the league....

I don't understand. Howson was demanding an extremely high price for Nash, but in the end he gave him up for peanuts. Did Slats have some embarrassing photos of him or something?

yeah, maybe he has pictures of him making a good trade?

I know theyve got 13 million available...but perhaps a few fans and a few writers should go have a peek at capgeeks.com....the Rags have plenty of young talent to re-sign over the next 2 seasons...
going after a guy like Doan when you will have EASILY over 20 million in pay raises to dole out makes no sense. Better to remain under and keep room for deadline moves if necessary then not have headaches at the end of the season.

They could be gambling that there will be no more cap after the lockout and strike most everyone is predicting.

I agree....I wouldn't be so ready to throw big money at a 39 year olde guy either, especially whne the young guys need to stay here

with Doan and Nash the Blueshirts would resemble a roster that could rival the LA Kings. The Flyers gotta hope the Preds don't match the Weber sheet.

Slats at long last has put together a serious contender. Perchance Gary and the Fuhrer will "Montreal Expo" his season of promise.

I also agree, the Rangers have made a huge move without giving up much, unless the price is right they do not need to overspend on Doan as other teams who missed out on Nash will...

thats assuming that there will still be hockey in the advent of another prolonged lock-out. I've said it before & I say it again, if they cancel even a single game I am shutting off the NHL. It would take a miracle (like the Habs being relevant) to even get me to consider ever watching games again. Nothing I hate more than millionaires and billionaires fighting over a pie and taking the common folk hostage.
