Rangers getting desperate for Hamels?

08:17 AM ET 07.24 | With the news that Colby Lewis will undergo season-ending surgery, Jon Daniels finds himself in a pickle. Now, the pressure is on to trade for a front-line starter at some point in the next seven days. ... Though Daniels isn't going to admit it publicly, the Rangers have lost leverage in a potential trade scenario because of Lewis' injury. The Phillies have made what I'm told are "outrageous" demands from the Rangers for the services of left-handed starter Cole Hamels. Daniels has rarely acted out of desperation over the years, but the Phillies know how badly his team needs a starter. He was asked Monday whether Lewis' absence would alter the Rangers' strategy at the deadline. "I think it's going to depend on the specifics of the situation."

Desperate? Since Holland has been inconsistent all year and Oswalt's back is already acting up (missed yesterdays start), I think Daniels might feel a bit desperate. They should be adding Feliz back to the rotation but counting on him is no sure thing. They are going to have to do something but at what price is the question.

I would not mind giving up a significant package as long as it was not a rental. That is why I'd really like Cliff Lee. They'd have him for 3 more years. As long as they can keep Profar, I am all for getting a "#1."

.......the king is burning to join the rangers....as is matt garza, cliff lee, roy h., and joe johnson....with feldman lookin good, perez and feliz in the wings, rangers are not as desperate as some wish they were...but they may pick up an extra veteran sp for insurance....

The Rangers are trying to acquire Joe Johnson from the Nets? Who knew.

Colby Lewis is out for the season as well.

The Rangers best post season pitcher for the last 2 seasons just went down for the year...I do not think Jon Daniels feels like he has anyone in current rotation who is a guaranteed win when he really needs it. I'd be shocked if the Rangers don't make a move. If King Felix really is "burning" to be a Ranger as the one poster claims...you move heaven and earth to make it happen.

Thanks.

That's also a large salary they'll be taking on.

Rangers have the means to meet Philly's demands. That's why Philly is asking for a lot.

The Rangers have lots of pieces to offer in a trade. They will get something done.

Whatever trade they do (if they do) will be a large salary to take on, which would make it more difficult (probably impossible) to keep Hamilton after the season.

He will do well with The Rangers! He would do better with The Yankees, but probably waits to work his own deal with The Angles or Dodgers!!!

I thought that since it is stated in the first sentence of the article I didn't need to repeat it.

You seem like the type that would be into smoking bath salts.

Not worth it if he is gone at the end of the year. Throw all your trade pieces towards King Felix and see if you get a bite. If not go after someone who will be around longer.
