08:21 AM ET 07.24 | Clemson's Sammy Watkins was selected on Monday as the preseason ACC Player of the Year, but when he actually takes the field is to be determined. Watkins has been suspended indefinitely since being arrested for possession of a controlled substance and simple possession of marijuana -- both misdemeanors -- on May 4. When coach Dabo Swinney was asked to give an update on his star's status, he answered that there's still no update. ... [Swinney has] hinted that the suspension might last less than one game. Swinney became openly defensive when asked about the perception that Watkins would be getting off easy if he was allowed to play in the second half of the Tigers' season opener.

We're all missing the big picture here, aren't we? Isn't the forst game Auburn?

It's much more important for the ACC to get a quality win over an SEC school than it is for a kid to learn from their mistakes. Wait will the LSOP game and then sit him out......gotta hoave our priorities straight, boys!

Maybe they should make him stay in the locker room for the coin toss? Horrors. One thing he'll learn is to find a safe place for his weed and to always travel with someone who can take the bllame for it.

That's right. Make sure he doesn't learn anything from his mistakes.

Doesn't start, but comes in on second series.....Yeah, quite a learning session.

They could really punish him and force him to locker with the women's wrestling team!!! Oh wait they don't have one, cancel that idea!!!

And people still wonder why some players continue to act like idiots when they get to the NFL...

It's not about the actual punishment. It's about if Watkins knows he made a mistake and understand what consequences could be.....

Ok, I'm JK on that one, too. We had a similar situation so I'm a hypocritye if I criticize, but well, there it is. He probably should miss more time than less than a game, but since my team did it once 5-6 years ago, I cannot in good conscience criticize this.

What would be awesome is if Dabo elects not to do the right thing, playw this "model student athlete" and Clemson loses. Could happen.

What would be awesome is if Dabo elects to play him that first game and they still loose. Could happen.

Of course he'll play against Auburn. Without him, Clemson loses for sure.

The rest is just details...
