08:22 AM ET 07.24 | At least one Rich Rodriguez tradition remains at Michigan: the annual "Barbecue at the Big House" recruiting event. Only a few uncommitted high school seniors will attend, but they're notable. Richmond (Va.) Hermitage five-star running back Derrick Green, the No. 12 player in the nation according to Rivals.com, hopes to meet Brady Hoke for the first time after the two didn't connect on Green's previous trip to U-M. ... The main focus of the event will be on non-seniors, since U-M has yet to reel in a Class of 2014 commitment. Though they were well ahead of the curve in 2013, landing Shane Morris in May of his sophomore year of high school, they are not among the 23 schools that have already picked up a 2014 commit.

Crazy how early talent gets evaluated and committments start these days. I wasn't a great HS athelete, but I was MUCH bigger, faster, better in my SR yr than I was my soph year.
How can you eval D-1 ability after watching sophomore FB?

Yeah I agree. Isn't the 2014 class still in the 9/10 grade?

Actually OT, they will be juniors in HS this year. This is the year that everything begins to happen for kids going to college... SAT, ACT and the interest letters from schools start pouring in off the PSAT tests. Stands to reason that it would also be an active year for football recruiting.

Good point. I guess it better than recruiting an 8/9 grader.
