Cassell destined for Dallas?

Sam Cassell has not asked to be traded. He hasn't sought a buyout of the remainder of his contract. He has been a loyal soldier. But that doesn't mean he hasn't thought about a change of scenery. And the Mavericks are a team that makes sense -- a title contender that always is looking for a veteran, calming influence at point guard who has seen his share of playoff battles.

Dallas could use a leader like Cassell....becoz we all saw what the MVP did for yall last year

January 13, 2008  08:26 AM ET

There is no story here. He hasn't asked to be traded, and hasn't asked for a buyout. The Mavs have Jason Terry, and Devin Harris at the point. Why would they want Cassell?

January 13, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Now that is a team. Terry, Harris, Jones, and Cassell at the guard positions.

January 13, 2008  08:45 AM ET

I agree w/ the blogger w/ the great picture down there...they don't need Cassell, Terry and Harris are really good combined. I thought the Lakers could've used him last year, look at what Fisher's doing on that team now. Cassell needs a team more like that at this point in his career.

January 13, 2008  08:47 AM ET

Oh i mean up there....

January 13, 2008  09:05 AM ET

I dont know about this

Cassell, Terry, Harris, Jones, Stackhouse, Hassell

A lot of guards and how to split PT???

January 13, 2008  11:01 AM ET

The more depth the better the Mavs are...bring 'em.

DJ, they can always move guys around to other positions, right?

January 13, 2008  11:10 AM ET

I like Cassell in Boston better. The Mavs already have 3 PGs who more than capable. I think Boston is feeling the effects of a shortened bench these days. They need one or two more solid players to endure the postseason. Get Sam before it's too late.

January 13, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Well, it's nice to know that Cassell is cool with where he's at. I'm glad we needed to read this. But assuming this story was important, I highly doubt that Dallas would use him to begin with. If they were looking for a vet, then get one at a different position. I think they're good at the point.

January 13, 2008  11:25 AM ET

They could play Avery Johnson, too.

January 13, 2008  11:51 AM ET

Is Sam "I am" a descendant of those found in Area 51? Just kidding, I love Cassell. I'd rather him go to the Miami, whereas my LAKERS wouldn't end his season.

January 13, 2008  12:24 PM ET

I agree with Gatorade boy, Boston should go get this fella

January 13, 2008  01:20 PM ET

Jones, Terry, Stackhouse, Hassell are no or no pure PGs. Dallas could definitely use Cassell. He has lots of playoff and finals experience. Dallas unlike Boston has some players on its roster to make an offer for him.

January 13, 2008  01:38 PM ET

its another one of these NEWSPAPER GMs trying to stir some **** in the front office

January 13, 2008  02:33 PM ET

yes he should go to boston.....him and KG played well together in minnesota. maybe sprewell will join in too!! and then he can have team parties on his yacht............

January 13, 2008  02:37 PM ET

Cassell can be clutch if Dirk goes bi polar again. They could definitely use his ability to post up guards.

January 13, 2008  03:59 PM ET

Dear God,
I know you up there because I went to church (true) this morning and you are in my heart though Jesus.
Please hear my humble prayer.
Please help Cleveland wake up NOW...
I SAID NOW OH MASTER, and try to get Sammy here.
Please.
This guy is a leader who makes everybody work harder and would be a TREMENDOUS asset to this kid we have that has to lead, instead of knows how to lead... this LeBron guy.
He is great, and it's his team... but this Sam guy I'm asking for... is a nightmare in sneakers when he has to lead a team into battle.
God
Please bring Sam to Cleveland.
in his name is pray...
amen
Humbly Yours
PartyPimp
I am not kidding...when is the last time we won a championship in ANYTHING here in Cleveland?

I'm don't want division or conference titles... i want a RING !

January 13, 2008  09:24 PM ET

I didn't know this guy was still playing.

January 13, 2008  09:56 PM ET

Sam Cassell can't play for the Mavericks because there isn't enough room on their bench for him.

January 14, 2008  11:16 AM ET

Sam would be a good with the Mavs he brings a great presence to the game and he has some thing that all three other Mavs guards dont have... a RING and not one but 2 of them!!! think about it
