The Flyers' next move

08:19 AM ET 07.25 | Philadelphia made Shea Weber a very rich man, but he'll remain in Nashville, which called his signing "the most important hockey transaction in franchise history." So where do the Flyers go from here? Do they try to sign unrestricted free-agent winger Shane Doan, whose preference is to remain in Phoenix? Do they attempt to acquire Anaheim winger Bobby Ryan, Phoenix defenseman Keith Yandle, or San Jose defenseman Dan Boyle? Or will Holmgren roll the dice again and give an offer sheet to another restricted free agent such as defensemen Michael Del Zotto of the New York Rangers, P.K. Subban of Montreal, or John Carlson of Washington? Make no mistake, this is a major setback to the franchise.

Great so now that Philly provided an offer sheet to one of the Top 3 Dmen in the league they are going to do it for Evander Kane and PK Subban. Thank you interns for your idiocy

let's hope the major setback for Flyers is a giant step forward for Preds...I know Rinne has got to be sleeping better tonight........IMO this is a one year deal for Weber and he will be in a Flyer uniform after next season...but its nice to see local management/ownership step up and keep Preds in the hunt for a deep playoff run....time will tell.....fan base just let out a very loud sigh of relief......

IDK if he will be in a Flyers uni next year Nashville ownership shelled out a ton of money up front I would think he's there for at least 3-4 years before he is moved....assuming the franchise doesn't nose dive to cellar dweller status

Like I said yesterday, I cannot see Weber staying in Nashville. I think he was incredibly disheartened by the team's lack of activity this offseason, and I can't see why you want to keep an unhappy star around. I don't know if it's to Philly, but I won't be shocked if he's dealt.

all we are hearing today is that when the Flyers put a laser on a player, they never give up...even if it will be delayed a year..they have lost out on Parise and Suter.....Preds could come out better next year with 1st round picks and so forth...Hopefully Weber will give it all next year and make the trade even more positive for Preds...just think it will play out this way...

I dunno. In 12 months he'll have been paid $26 million by Nashville. Then what? Give him up for picks and the Schenn bros.?

The Preds put a lot out and shot themselves in the foot to keep him in Nashville, I can see them doing it again and trading to a Flyers rival if they need to move him over the next 3 years. I also dont see them moving him next year as they will have spent 27 Mil of his salary already and fans expect him to be a captain for 14 years after the GM speech.
I see them giving it 3 years of not making it with fans not being as supportive as before, then moving him.

I think that if ownership can accept that their payroll needs to be upwards of 60 million they will continue to do fine. Sure, they lost Suter, but I still think that they have some goods & with Trotz there they're still a playoff team.
As I've gone on about here so many times, this could all have been avoided had the Preds openned their wallets 2-3 years ago. Ownership put Poile & Trotz in impossible positions by refusing to pay players. A self imposed diet is a good thing, but in the long run the owners had to expect to fork out the cahs. If they never intended to spend then they never should have bought a team in the 1st place.

I don't see what Subban adds to the Flyers...they'd be better with cheaper but more reliable defensive pieces (IMO). Also, judging by the market, but Karlsson in Ottawa is looking like an absolute bargain at the moment.

I say that he stays longer than that, and whether he goes or not eventually will depend entirely on ownership's philosophy. If they insist on letting talent walk out the door for nothing + refuse to pay for talent, then yes, he will rightfully want out.

Perhaps the plan is 6 defensemen and an empty net?
