08:10 AM ET 07.25 | Ryan Dempster will take his time, saying Tuesday that he's considering his "options" before making a decision on whether to give his consent to a trade. Various reports had suggested the Atlanta Braves were simply waiting for Dempster to approve the deal that was leaked out Monday, in which the Cubs would get right-hander Randall Delgado in return. ... Dempster declined to address [a report that he doesn't want to go to Atlanta, and still wants to be traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers]. "I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go," said Dempster, adding that he was willing to go up until the July 31 trade deadline to decide. "I'm just trying to look at everything, make the best decision for me and my family," he said.

if he's more comfortable pitching in LA, then Wren should let that trade go and focus on Plan B(Greinke?).

well, just heard Wren say on the radio that "we don't want to paint ourselves in a corner. we are moving on" from the Dempster trade.
wonder if that means that Greinke is now their prime target?

I don't know about taking one for the team, but if he has multiple choices right now, he needs to pick one, because teams are moving ahead with their plans, and by the deadline he may have only one choice left.

the article i just read quoted Theo as saying they were going to keep him and make him an offer after the season. when he declines and declares for free agency, the cubs will get a 2013 comp draft pick.

Do your bosses and their competitors get to negotiate where you will be working next week without regard for where you would like to be working next week? Would you like a little bit of control over that process? I sure would.
His contract was signed with Chicago, not Atlanta. I don't know why he doesn't want to go to Atlanta. I don't need to know why he doesn't want to go to Atlanta. He finally has control over trades after ten years in the league. The team only cares about what is coming back in return. The player only cares about where he's going.
That's the collective barganing agreement which MLB sign. He's only exercising his rights.
Maybe Dempster wants to sign with LA next year. Maybe he doesn't want to be a rental somewhere he has no intention of signing longer term.

With the loyalty teams display to players he owes nothing to the Cubs. The 10 and 5 rule is a right they earned. If you had that right would you move to a new job for a different company in a city you don't want to live in for the sake of your old company?
I live near Atlanta, there's no way I'd want to play outdoors in this heat and humidity.

That would be true if Dempster didnt list Atl as a choice and then reject it. All the facts are not out but if that's the case that was a **** move. I always liked the way he played the game but I'm curious to see what his legacy will be if he ends up staying or the cubs do not get something close to Delgado.
