Texas complicating its QB decision?

08:15 AM ET 07.25 | It may have been easier to ask cheerleaders about the choice between David Ash or Case McCoy -- which happened Tuesday -- than Mack Brown. [When asked directly, Brown] demurred, saying Ash and McCoy both won games for Texas last year and that they finished in a dead heat at the end of spring football. His words suggest that he still hasn't decided on a starter though the people I speak with all believe that Ash will be the starter. I believe that as well. So we're entering another [fall] with some uncertainty (at least that's what Mack is suggesting) at quarterback. It's obvious Mack doesn't want to put the pressure on Ash to be the official starter this early in the game and he also doesn't want to discourage McCoy.

Sure this isn't an ND thread?
And looking at that photo of Mack...can someone please feed him a laxative?

They use a QB on offense at Texas?
Since when?

I think MB is screwing this big time. Pick a guy, give him the reps he needs to improve and move on. Alternating reps just means that 2 inexperienced guys stay inexperienced.

Gundy made the right decision, pick a guy, let him get the practice and support he needs.

That sure worked great for Brian Kelly last year!

Ash will be the man until he starts F'n up... then Ash/McCoy will become a yo-yo depending on the game

Agree. Ash looked okay in the Holiday Bowl - not great, but adequate - and could get better. I liked the way the Longhorns played as a unit, especially the defense. Much stronger and more disciplined than Cal (which, admittedly, isn't saying very much).

Ash was a true freshman IIRC.. Being thrown into the fire is tough in any situation.. Interested to see how he progressed...Texas D will be/should be at least Top 5... They will keep them in all the games for the most part.. If they can run the ball they will win.. How are the STs?

Yeah, that was his biggest problem. He barely got any reps as a TF until the bowl game. I think they said his offensive package had 7 plays.

Good punter, horrid kicker. I think they games they lose will be because of ST's

I think the key to the rusty cow's season lies in the offensive and defensive lines...particularly depth!

There is no excuse for Texas nor A & M NOT having high quality depth throughout the squad. With the amount of talent in this state and the resources available to both flagship universities, there is no absolutely no excuse whatsoever.

Texas has done it occasionally but shouldn't have very severe "down" years. A & M never has really done much which is pathetic. They should have been better over the years.

OL has big depth issues. DL should be in pretty good shape.

Not making excuses, but it happens everywhere. 2010 was a debacle and should never happen. But, every program has reconfiguration years. I think the really good programs keep them to 1-2 years as opposed to 3-5 years.

Okay, so he had a good game against Rice, he throw the ball 4 times. :-)
