Doan sets new deadline for Coyotes

08:17 AM ET 07.25 | As the Coyotes' future in Arizona remains somewhat cloudy, so, too, does the future of Shane Doan. The three-year-old Coyotes ownership saga seems nearly incapable of a resolution. ... It appears very unlikely the NHL will move the Coyotes this offseason to another market like Seattle or Quebec City. Time would be very short for a relocation, and boosters of the Coyotes sale here say Jamison is trying to finalize a deal. Coyotes free agent captain Shane Doan has given potential owner Greg Jamison until Friday to try to get a deal done, or at least close. If that doesn't happen, the Coyotes most popular player will narrow his list of new teams he might sign with this offseason.

I dunno Danny. I bet a ot of teams would pay for his skill and leadership to get over that hump. I'll take him in the playoffs on my team anyday. Big heart...bigger balls.

This is all for a guy who will probably get a smaller contract than Ales Hemsky. What the actual eff?!

Alice got 5 mill for 2 ....WTF has it come to when that is deemed small ?

QUOTE(#3):

There is no doubt that Doan has great positives. But in the end, he's a piece, not a game-changer. Nash, Parise, I understand the hubbub over them because they can turn an "almost there" to a Cup fave instantly. This is saturation because there is absolutely nothing else to talk about. Shane Doan alone isn't making ANY team in instant Cup contender.

I agree....though I must add that I like the idea of a deadline, if only to get this story OUT OF HERE!!!

nope, he's canadian and he has 'heart' (that's what we say about our own dirty players, right?), and he's been drastically overvalued.

nice....I thought only USA used euphemisms like that, nice to know our canadian brethren do also

Doan? Coyotes or who? Ownership in Phoenix? The eternal questions. Amen.

yah, but if he was russian...watch out, he'd be Satan, Stalin and Hitler all roled into one...

With another set of elections in Quebec predicted for september, I'm starting to get the feeling that they will never get their arena. The guys in place formed a pretty solid majority so they had the clout to do what they wanted but were too soft to just force things through. Chances are that they will come out of the election as a weak minority if they win at all. I kept saying that the window would close, they have to start acting,....and hey, will you look at that.

I agree on the over value part. I heard #'s like 6-7 mil per year being talked about.
Thats alot. I see Philly overpaying here in a desperation move.

C'mon Harry.............who could live on that? Be eatin' government cheese on day old bread. Sleepin' on a grate. Might be able to afford one ticket to a hockey in the nosebleeds, but not more than once a season. Tough.

Your right , my perspective is skewed ;-) The Oil give Glass Alice 5 mill , and then wonder why Smyth wants more dough ??

Foil, I've heard the Habs are on his short list of acceptable teams if it falls through with Pheonix, which is looking more and more likely. I've also heard he's Price's cousin, so maybe there's some family ties there. So there's a possibility we'll see him in la belle province, but doan quote me on that (sorry couldn't resist ;)

He made $4.5 mil last couple years.....
