Saints may be more explosive without Payton

08:04 AM ET 07.26 | In the eyes of many, Sean Payton's absence means a step back for the Saints' offense. But as I see it, nothing could be further from the truth. The offense will flourish with offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. calling plays. In fact, it could be even more explosive than the 2011 version. ... No one knew [after Payton injured his leg in Week 6] that this would pay huge dividends in 2012, but the 10-game trial run allowed Carmichael to demonstrate his offensive capabilities and earn the respect of his fellow coaches and the players in the locker room. I was blown away by the Saints' remarkable production under Carmichael. The unit averaged a staggering 476.1 yards, 26.9 first downs and 37 points per game.

That WAS the purpose, to let the media know they weren't going to say anything. Fom that standpoint it was successful.

And of course the rest of the problems the team amount to nothing as the juggernaut of the Saints offense carves up opponents. Please.

July 26, 2012  09:39 AM ET

Coaches? We don't need no stinkin coaches.

July 26, 2012  10:08 AM ET

Roger exploded the team...

July 26, 2012  10:17 AM ET

Sure take away teh head coach and two or three top players, that's always a sure way to make your team more explosive

July 26, 2012  10:17 AM ET

They're going to need as much offense as they can get because I don't believe their defense is going to be that good this year.
