08:10 AM ET 07.26 | Ervin Santana has struggled with his delivery this season, and the Angels will skip his scheduled start on Friday, perhaps underscoring Los Angeles' interest in acquiring another starter. Dan Haren will start on his normal four days' rest Friday after Thursday's off day, followed by left-hander C.J. Wilson on Saturday, [Mike Scioscia] said. ... A potential trade target disappeared Wednesday when Cole Hamels signed his contract extension with the Philadelphia Phillies, but the Angels remain in pursuit of Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke, and they are still very much involved in talks for Tampa Bay Rays right-hander James Shields, who is scheduled to pitch Thursday against Baltimore.

The Angels may need to make a move, and doing so takes a pitcher away from Texas, who may need one more than LA. The Angels would also do well to send roller coaster Santana (up and down, up and down) away. Hell, bring in both these guys.

<future alacran post>

the angels must deal pitchig if team wants to win...sheidls would be good addition, but what will team give up to get him...maybe tampa want vernon wells to be DH for them...greienke must come over too...angels can send three minor leaguers and some sushi for him to go with beer

I gotta admit, I enjoy reading his rants...er, posts.

me too

I like packaging Santana and Borjous (SP?), but not sure I would take that package if I was Tampa, and it might be a bit much for renting Greinke for a couple of months

He seems like a good guy. Just a little long winded and expresses his thoughts in very discreet packets.

No Greinke. They will never be able to sign him. I'm sure he is not willing to sign for less than Weaver ($85 million) or CJ ($75 million.) He certainly not worth more.

Who wants a two month rental?

Both those contracts (Weaver and CJ) look like absolute steals compared to Hamels.

hard to tell, in other words to get a rental player only to lose him in the free agency, that's just like taking two steps back!!!

it sure looks like that, but lets not forget hamels has been a tough conssistent pitcher that if the phillies allow him to try the free agency hamels could have a 6 years 155 millions deal easy, hamels its not only a tough competetor but he has tremendous resiliants and passion for the game, whoever had sign him would had a great # one in their rotation!!

roller coaster Santana

sad to accepted but its just reality, santana has been too errant in just about every game where he has pitched, and his problems aren't a velocity in his pitch he still reach 95 or 96 MPH rather it has to do with mental stress, the halos should had have send him to the minors for a month or so just for fun this guy needs to get some fresh air in a different team and different baseball level!!

The Angels may need to make a move

there its a problem with the angels minor system the franchise has nothing ready from their minors, its easy to said the halos could add a top prospect/s in any trade but they are too thin in the prospects area, rather the halos could trade VERNON WELLS, or HOWE KENDRICK, or JORDAN WALDEN, the last angels resort could be BOURJOS, about santana albastros season, send him for a little vacation to a place where he can regain his peacefull mind, nothing else to do with him for now!!

July 26, 2012  01:54 PM ET

angels had have make too many wrong deals in the past, in parts the GM fault in other times it has been the owner fault, but then again if you don't risk anything you would never be able to know if that deal or that trade could have benefit and workout for the franchise,,,

a pitcher away from Texas,

the rangers should try to work a trade for CLIFF LEE, what's more important for the rangers LEE its signed for another 3 years more and there its no risk in losing him in the free agency like GREINKE!!!

July 26, 2012  02:04 PM ET

if the angels would be unable to pull any type of a trade by the deadline, they should work within their own regular starters DAN HAREN would need to pitch with more conssistent in every game where he be schedule, JEROME WILLIAMS needs to stop pitching like a single A league level pitcher, GARRET RICHARDS most keep his game plan simple and use the same approach from his experience from the minor league,

July 26, 2012  02:08 PM ET

the halos have the solution and the answer in their own franchise, the team's rotation has been a disaster with the exception from weaver and a little bit from CJ WILSON, but this disaster has to start from whoever its in charge of fixin things and right now everything its pointing towards one solo direction,,,,,,,, the pitching coach!!!

July 26, 2012  02:10 PM ET

the angels had a great game yeasterday and yes they did play without twin killer double play PUJOLS, i wonder why? this halos play beter without pujols in their lineup?? i mean everybody was hitting like crazy,,,,,
