08:19 AM ET 07.26 | On the trade market for nearly a year now, Bobby Ryan may be one of the next significant players to find a new address. The Sabres have wanted him for months. ... They have an overabundance of defensemen they could move, either on the roster now (Andrej Sekera and Jordan Leopold) or on the cusp of getting there (Mark Pysyk) but the Ducks will want a forward. Or two. It all comes down to the Sabres' recruiting problem. The word gets around this is a good place to live with a great owner. But it's not attractive to players who want to win a Stanley Cup -- yet. Are you going to go to Pittsburgh, Philly or New York or come to Buffalo, where the team took a step back and didn't even make the playoffs last season?

Who is drinking this kool aid? I am from the NIagara Region, and Buffalo is definitely not on the "hot" list of places to live for pro athletes. World class shopping? No. Restaurants? NO, unless you wish to eat chicken wings all week long. Entertainment district? I am not hating, I actually visit for wings/Sabres games often enough. But when competing against the New York's, Philadelphia's, Dallas, Montreal, Toronto, Chicagos, Bostons... well, enough said.

Yes, Buffalo is not NYC, Chicago, etc. Will it appeal to younger, single NHL players? Probably not.
Slightly older NHL players with families? It certainly can.
