08:11 AM ET 07.27 | MLB Radio's Jim Duquette took the occasion of a radio appearance in Boston to address Bobby Valentine's future and Josh Beckett's trade value. When asked about Beckett's value on the trade market with the July 31 deadline approaching, Duquette didn't see much. ... "If I was the Red Sox I would absolutely move him." There have been rumors swirling that Valentine might not come back next season if the Red Sox don't make the playoffs. "I have conversations with scouts and executives all the time," Duquette said. "They start to talk about managers and general managers on the hot seat and his name comes up a lot as one that if [the Red Sox] don't get in a lot of people don't think that he will be back."

That's why you come in a close second to Slinkster as kind of a big deal on FN.

3rd consecutive season out of the playoffs. roster largely intact. the problem isn't the new manager.

Not entirely, I agree.

I doubt Valentine is going anywhere. The Sox wanted the anti-Francona since being buddy-buddy with the players didn't work the last two years either. There were just too many injuries and players not playing up to their potential to over come this year. Maybe this is the year to just clean house and not have any player be "safe". Still, I've been following the Sox since the late 60's and have had to be a fan of a lot of lousy teams so not like this is worse than any of those other years. It's just everyone has expectations now that in the past they never had.

Sometimes you just have to bulldoze the house down.

Nahhhh, I remember years when the Yankees weren't always the darlings of New York either. I had read in interesting article once where when the Yankees were winning all those championships in the 30's, 40's and 50's they never got a ticket tape parade but when the Giants won they got one.

Yep...........I've been a fan of the Yankees since the mid-50s and have seen a lot of good times and a lot of bad times...........

I have much respect for fans who choose one team and stick with them no matter what.............People who jump from bandwagon to bandwagon get on my nerves..

I know what you mean about fair weather fans. Plus I don't think the media was nearly as bad back then either though the Boston media has always been pretty crappy even going back to Ted William's time where they would blame him for everything that went wrong with the Red Sox.
