08:12 AM ET 07.27 | Though his team doesn't exactly need him for a playoff push, the Rockies' two-time all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki isn't throwing in the towel on 2012. Lateral movement remains the next hurdle for [Tulowitzki] to clear as he pushes toward a rehab assignment after surgery on his left groin last month. Despite speculation, Tulowitzki has not been shut down for the season, nor has he given up on playing this year. He has begun hitting off a tee and continues to do light running. "I hope to get back, but obviously I will make sure I am ready," Tulowitzki told The Denver Post on Thursday. When that will be remains uncertain, because it all depends on how his leg responds in workouts. "Time will tell," Tulowitzki said.

The season's a washout. No sense in hurrying back, Tulo. Take all the time you need to get completely healthy for '13.

Thing is, the season might not be as big a washout IF this guy had been around. The pitching is terrible, but losing your best player and team leader tends to make a team suck.

He needs to try to return to show the guys some grit and leadership.

I'm not sure that FIVE Tulo's would have made a difference with this atrocious pitching staff.

yeah, before his injury, during inter-league play, they were swept by the Mariners. Now, that is sinking to the bottom of the barrel. I don't follow the Rockies--with the Phillies in my past and the Mariners in my present, I can't stand any more awful teams--but next year has to be better for them!

The past offseason was a horribly disjointed one for the Rockies. They seemed to get older but not better. They need to start planning for the offseason and next season NOW to make sure they don't mess it up again.
