Dodgers chasing Garza after rejecting Dempster?

08:13 AM ET 07.27 | As the trade deadline looms, the Cubs are running out of desirable options in an attempt to move right-hander Ryan Dempster. The Cubs offered to send [Dempster] to his preferred Dodgers straight up for solid right-handed pitching prospect Allen Webster, but the Dodgers have rejected the offer. The issue seems to be this: The Dodgers don't appear to love Dempster quite as much as he loves them. According to people briefed on the talks, the Dodgers have thus far offered a couple of lesser prospects, guys who may project as relievers. The Dodgers, or so it seems anyway, may be more interested in a different Cubs pitcher, Matt Garza. While they like Dempster enough to make an offer, they also like Garza very much, perhaps even more.

Good for the Dodgers! Now I hope AA can swing a deal and bring Dempster in to shore up our starting rotation.

Garza isn't a rental. He's got a year of arbitration left. That makes him more valuable.

QUOTE(#6):

I would love to see a team go all in and pick up both Garza and Dempster. The Rangers have the depth and farm system to do it.

the rangers have everything what its needed in any trade, but we would need daniels to stop thinking too long and get the prospects ready to be traded NOW,,

garza itsn't a rental but dempster its, but then again what ever it takes as long the rangers or the white sox make their teams stronger in their rotation!!

It isn't just that he is a rental, it is that he is an average pitcher having an exceptional year. He will likely want "ace" money to sign a contract, then revert to middle-to-bottom of the rotation performance. Likely Webster will do at least that well, and for a lot less money.

Dempster to Dodgers isn't dead yet...

I heard the Cubs want one of the Dodgers Big (Really Big) prospects and the Dodgers won't do it...

Wait til Tuesday and the Cubbies will fold and settle for what they're being offered.

that is a good possibility--it would be nice to see him go to a contender, and it would be nice to see the Dodgers back in the hunt.
