08:48 AM ET 07.28 | The Angels bolstered their sagging rotation with a right-hander who has been one of baseball's top starting pitchers over the last 4 1/2 years, acquiring Zack Greinke from the Milwaukee Brewers for shortstop Jean Segura and double-A pitchers Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena on Friday. The deal was remarkable for the Angels in that they did not have to give up two of their top young major leaguers, center fielder Peter Bourjos and pitcher Garrett Richards.

This was a good move for Anaheim, even if he is a little fragile between the ears. Let's just hope the expectations aren't too much for him.

Not so much of what they gave up or didn't give up, but can he pitch effectively in the heat of a pennant race? Pitching in Kansas City and Milwaukee is not the same.

Morning, Willie. You are up early.

I'm always up early. Oldest daughter had to be on the ice at 6:00.

Love this pickup. Got the arm we needed, and Borjous is still here.

I saw a good bumper-sticker yesterday. It said "You're just jealous because the voices are talking to me."

But I think he has depression/anxiety issues, not schizophrenic type stuff.

He's a good 2 month rental.

except that he would only last 2 months in anaheim, other than that the halos may have done the right trade with the exception of given away 3 top prospects and most likely the halos won't get any compensation at all!!

July 28, 2012  11:54 AM ET

should the halos trade santana and richards for james shields?? with this trade the halos won't lose anything why?? because shields wouldn't be a free agent untill 2014??

QUOTE(#10):

Remarkably cheap? Not really. There is nothing wrong with the Angels going for it but to suggest that he came remarkably cheap would not be true. Milwaukee did quite well on this trade.

nothing its free and no it wasn't cheap at all the 3 players two top prospect pitchers and a SS who should become a regular player in the next season at most, 2 dominican players and pitcher his high 6'9 a pitcher who could develope into a great starter in two years,,

July 28, 2012  12:02 PM ET

the best thing for the halos that could ever happened to them, the worse thing that it would happen it should come next winter when the angels watch greinke do the waliking towards the rangers or braves,,,,or to the yankees!!

July 28, 2012  12:03 PM ET

the dodgers did a good deal in getting hanley ramirez why?? because he still has another 3 years left in his contract!!!

July 28, 2012  12:07 PM ET

angels would need to shop in next year winter, especially in starters with or without greinke the halos could be weak in their rotation, santana still strugling with his comand, richards pitch well sporadicaly,, jerome williams has collapse to the point of losing his spot in the rotation!!!

July 28, 2012  12:08 PM ET

if the angels are able to get longoria from the rays next year in exchange for vernon wells, or get james shields in that trade as well!!!

July 28, 2012  12:11 PM ET

dan haren may or may not had have finded his strikezone comand at the mound , in this two solid outings have regain a little confidence by his teamates and the GM!!!

my guess point on the rangers, this franchise may still thinking in get CLIFF LEE in a late trade from the phillies, the advantage in this trade if it did happens CLIFF LEE its signed untill 2015 and that's A PLUS for the rangers,,,
