Cubs slugger could fill Rays' need

09:35 AM ET 07.28 | It's worth thinking what would happen if you put a hitter like Alfonso Soriano with a team that badly needs some more hitting. The Rays are one such team. The Athletics are another. And believe it or not, the Tigers are on this list as well. Nobody has asked me to broker a Soriano trade, but the least I can do is make a suggestion. There apparently is a belief run-producers grow on trees, and that you can find a designated hitter on every street corner. But that's not true -- just ask the Mariners. Soriano could be making a difference. He should be making a difference, actually. The Rays need Soriano, and while President Theo Epstein's focus has seemed to be on Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza, the hope is Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer can convince Andrew Friedman that he can do better -- a whole lot better -- than just adding Ryan Roberts to play third while crossing his fingers that Evan Longoria can stay healthy as a DH until moving to third a month from now.

If The Cubs pay his Salary, it's a Good Deal, for the Rays, they can afford giving The Cubs a Bullpen Catcher, anything more, it's a lost Cause!

The Chicago Tribune is trying to help the Cubs by selling Soriano to someone, anyone. He is having a decent season, and if you don't have anyone better for right now, and you don't have anyone coming along in the next year or two, he could help some team.

I'd say Philly should look at him, but we don't like hitters here.

At this point in his career, he should go to an AL team to strictly DH.

I think his $18M for the next 2 years plus the remaining money for this year is a lot for most teams, he also isn't the defensively.....

He's erratic and just as likely to go cold when he moves. Also, as another poster said, he's no defensive gem. Cubs will have to eat a good portion of what's owed to him just as they did for Zambrano. Getting him on the plane would probably help the club a lot though. He's a holdover from the ineptness days.

Package him with Garza and require teams to take both if they want Garza.

You'd think if there was a fit somewhere that he'd be gone by now.

The Cubbies aren't even going to get iffy prospects for Soriano, let alone top prospects. In addition, the Cubbies would have to pay a lot of his remaining contract. I would hate to be the GM that is so desperate that he trades for Albatross Soriano.

We don't want him, but someone would do it as long as Garza is not seriously injured. I've decided no contract is unmoveable after the Blue Jays offloaded that horrible Wells contract.

Yeah, but the Angels fired their GM, so maybe it is unmoveable.
God, that was a stupid trade. Napoli and Rivera for Wells and that contract?
