College job in D'Antoni's future?

09:16 AM ET 07.29 | Mike D'Antoni would be a wonderful college coach. He's warm, personable and great in the community. He has a reputation and a system that would recruit players. He would benefit from a less-stressful working environment. His teams wouldn't have to play defense like they do in the NBA. If things don't work out for Herb Sendek, Arizona State would be wise to explore the possibility. "I'm coming back to Phoenix, either with a job or without a job," D'Antoni cracked. After the 2012 Olympics -- where he's an assistant coach for the men's basketball team, enduring a reunion with coach-killer Carmelo Anthony -- D'Antoni will have no remaining ties to professional basketball. He says he wants to take a year off and enjoy his family. He may not have a choice.

Things could be worse. When Charlie Weis first showed up, they had to find two.

He would be a great coach in college. The main reason he would be is that he would have control of finding players to fit his system. If he had the right guys for his system with the Knicks, he would would be looked at much differently.

Yes he did! Go back 2 weeks before he got fired and you'll remember that there was something going on between those 2. Why do you think their meeting for the first time was kind of icy?

DAntoni got himself fired with the dismal seasons he had while there.... they brought in Woodson for defensive help but Antoni wouldnt listen and still played the run and gun offense. Didnt play Lin until half the team was hurt Had a nerve to put Marbury and little Nate Robinson on the pine. What was Walsh thinking about giving up on Galinari, Harrington, and the other SG to the Hawks?

How you going to kill a guy's career when he has no clue on coaching a basketball team. Just because you give someone the title doesn't mean that they are a coach. Hell, I can get a team of natural born chucks & throw the ball out and tell them to go for it while I stand on the sidelines with my arms crossed. Maybe with some college experience he'll look better in the position because it's clear he can't handle the Pro game.
