Thornton on Broadway?

08:01 AM ET 07.30 | New York is no stranger to big contracts or big deals, something Glen Sather reiterated recently by landing one of the offseason jewels of the trade market, and yet he retained a few young players who would entice other trade partners. Now that Rick Nash is a Ranger, don't be surprised to see the Blueshirts make a real play for Jumbo Joe Thornton. Nash and Thornton were magic together in Davos, Switzerland, during the last lockout, and have paired like hand and glove in the Olympics for Team Canada. Thornton would have to allow the Sharks to make the deal, but it's probably a good time for him to go. He has played 1,077 games -- 545 with the Sharks, 532 with the Bruins. Still without a Cup.

Over a thousand games played without a cup...now that's a foolish man.

Not this.

little more leary of this than Nash. Where nash has never had a good team around him...and whne he did (Olympics, etc) he stepped up....this guy HAS had a good team around him, though admittedly not the total cause of the annual San Jose` collapse

Thornton on Broadway?

I'm sure all those Tony Award winners will love him.

at least he'll win something then.....

I thought the Rangers were too soft for him?

Rangers would have to give up top prospects (Kreider or Stall or DelZotto). No way SJ is going to deal its captain and most noteworthy player for less. Wilson is no Scott Howsen.

This is the Rangers we have all grown to love. Start collecting those big name players again, it worked so many years for Sather in the past.

Easily one of the funniest, most ironic quotes in recent NHL history.

Don't worry, Spiny. The Rangers need Thornton to get them into the playoffs, at which point he's going to suffer a mysterious upper body injury (heart problems?) and sit it out. For the playoffs, the Ranger have Rick Nash, who is a relative virgin to such events and, therefore, unfamiliar with post season disappearing acts. Sather just might be a genius.

Thornton will never win the cup......
