Rangers eyeing Royals closer

08:16 AM ET 07.30 | Los Angeles made another addition in the arms race that is the AL West, which may leave Texas in the position of looking at pitching options from a different perspective. The Rangers, not finding the starting-pitching market to their liking, are looking at Royals closer Jonathan Broxton. Broxton would make a very nice set-up man. Joe Nathan has done a terrific job closing in Texas. The Rangers aren't in on Josh Johnson and there's a gaining belief the Rays may hold Shields, so Texas is turning its attention to the pen. If it acquires a reliever, it can move Alexi Ogando to the rotation. Broxton has had a nice bounce-back year with the Royals, going 1-2 with 23 saves and a 2.27 ERA.

ogando was an all star sp last year.....if they can make this happen, will be the best of all deals....rangers need to get those bats going and really, nothing else will then matter.........

As a Dodger fan watching this guy for several years I can tell u He stinks and despite his numbers every time he took the mound I felt he was going to blow the game. He has no secondary pitch.

If I remember correctly, Broxton didn't do so well when he was pitching any inning other than the ninth.

occasionally you can find a guy who is just lights out--for a season or two, or half a season, or maybe every other season. A Mariano Rivera type, who is lights out every year, is pretty darn rare. Broxton is more of an average closer; should be good for the rest of the year, but you never know. He is a better solution than no additional pitching. it is interesting that this story is being leaked before the trade deadline. Maybe an effort to bring down the price for Johnson or Shields?

Me, too, Otis. Last night I was screaming at the TV when RonWash sent Nathan in to pitch the ninth. Feldman was obviously dialed in and he had only thrown 88 pitches. I wanted him to finish it.
Nathan didn't disappoint, either. He ran the count full on the first batter and only a highlight-reel play by Andrus saved a hit. The next batter sends one to the wall in left. That was very nearly a tie game after the first two batters.
Nope, Nathan inspires no confidence with me.

the phillies need young talent in their franchise and in their team itself, lee would bring better talented and skilled players plus, the phillies wouldn't need to pay any of the lee's remained contract, since the rangers are in need for a top quality pitcher the rangers are willing to cover the rest of lee's contract!!!

i doubt lee would like to be trade to the yankees, it would be lika a slap in his wounded pride, lee loves to pitch for the rangers and the rangers love lee to be in their rotation, so YES i expect this deal to be complete in the next 24 hrs or by the first week of the next month!!!
