Young prospect holding up Luongo deal

08:24 AM ET 07.30 | Where will Roberto Luongo wind up if or when he is moved? The Florida Panthers are the best fit for the Vancouver Canucks goalie, but GM Dale Tallon won't give up prized prospect Nick Bjugstad to land him. The Panthers are as excited about his potential as they are about Jonathan Huberdeau. Bjugstad is playing at the University of Minnesota and seems ready to play in the NHL. Luongo was popular when he played in Florida before, plus he could be the lift the team needs to offset big moves by the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning. Canucks GM Mike Gillis is acting as if he is willing to go into the season with Luongo on his roster. But that would clearly be an uncomfortable situation with Cory Schneider seemingly set to be No. 1.

Mike Gillis is delusional. No team is going to give up any prized prospects to get a goalie that is being run out of town, makes a boatload of money and is past his prime. The Canucks are stuck with him just like any other overpaid player in the cap system. If I were a rival GM, I would simply ask Gillis how it will play out if Luongo and Schneider share the same room this season. Especially when Luongo has already stated it's time to move on. Gillis has absolutely no ground to stand on with this trade.

Really thinks it will be fun if Luongo is still there when the season starts.

I don't see any other option here. Florida doesn't need Luongo, and I really don't see why they keep getting dragged into this. The Leafs, all bs aside, aren't going to do this. Chicago needs a goalie, but this isn't what they need at this juncture. The only team I can think of that a) needs a goalie, and b) has pieces they can spare is Edmonton, and I don't know if trading him to a division rival is Gillis' best option here.

If he does, I will legit get a NY Rangers tattoo on my chest. I'm serious, it's simply a deal that doesn't work. The GMs hate each other, the contract length is extremely restrictive and ties the team's hands if he really starts playing awful, and in terms of trade pieces I cannot see where Vancouver has interest in anything the Leafs have. In addition, it's an extra $5.3 mil on the cap. It's not even that bad, really, but when you look at the holes the Leafs have to fill, and the quality of next year's UFA class, it's smart to wait it out.

What's another 5.3 mil when you're paying Celine 6.5?

good points all....but in all seriousness, wouldn't Lord irk love to get "a name" in there? Let's face it, one more silly goalie signing and the leafs will have to change their name to Flyers North
