08:23 AM ET 07.30 | Credit Ray Whitney for his honesty. Whitney was appearing on 1260 The Team in Edmonton on the Nielson and Fraser show to talk about his future with the Stars and how he came to be in Dallas. "There was a couple of things this year," said Whitney of contract negotiations and how he chose Dallas as his destination. "Obviously the length of contract was important. Dallas offered me two years right away. They were willing to give me that kind of commitment. They were the only team that was willing to give me that kind of commitment." Not even the team that took him to the Western Conference Finals last season? "Phoenix did offer me a two-year [contract] but not anywhere near financially what the Dallas Stars did," said Whitney.

By length you mean .... the number of zeroes to the right of the first number on the contract, right?

But why jump from a team that made it to the Conference Finals to a team that probably won't?

Only one team other than Phoenix was willing to offer two years. Kinda makes the decision fairly simple.

I was gonna say something nice too Otis. And then I thought to myself.............."why"? So I'm gonna go out to our new casino here in Cleveland and, if I win, I'll know that courtesy is waaaaay overrated! If I lose I'll apologize! :-)
