08:15 AM ET 07.31 | When a team is in the midst of its worst-ever season, as the Rockies are, a closer such as Rafael Betancourt sets up as a luxury accessory. [Betancourt] was acquired in 2009, along with Joe Beimel, to fortify the bullpen. Betancourt became the Rockies' top setup man and has been a team pillar on the mound ever since. ... With the Rockies telling other executives that outfielders Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler are not available, Betancourt remains the Rockies' most valuable piece to move in a deal. But, according to multiple sources Monday night, the Rockies were prepared to keep the right-hander if the offers didn't improve. The Rangers have interest. The Blue Jays, Athletics, Braves and Angels have a need and like the right-hander.
