08:29 AM ET 07.31 | Just how many more miles remain on Shane Doan's NHL odometer? That's the question factoring into his new contract. ... Doan's Friday deadline for potential Coyotes' buyer, Greg Jamison, has come and gone; the Phoenix captain had given Jamison until July 27th to show significant progress in buying the league-owned franchise. Meanwhile, Doan hasn't been sitting on his hands. Shane has already visited New York City, Philadelphia, and Montreal as possible future destinations for himself. The Phoenix Business Journal's Mike Sunnucks reports that the NHL wants to sell the Coyotes to Jamison's group for $170 million, but Jamison is approximately $20 million short. Plan B could be for the league to reduce the figure to a more manageable price.

If someone wants to buy the team and keep it in Phoenix, then the NHL ought to be a bit flexible. It would be awkward to execute expansion plans while they have a team that is essentially out of business

agree....NHL needs to get Pheonix settled before thinking of any expansion...shouldn't start a new team when you can move an intact team that can at least attempt to be competive from the start in a new home.......

no no no no no
that would just encourage this idiot to put a team in Las Vegas or something
I would offer, as commisioner, a discount to MOVE them to an NHL ready arena in an NHL type city, with real hockey fans in it

Expansion? Where in the name of god did you hear that?

The NHL is in NO condition to be contemplating expansion. In my mind they're two teams over their limit as it is.

I think the other four could be found good homes in sure-bet markets (QC, S.Ont, NW US).

Hmmmmmmmm...expansion. More teams in non-traditional markets, which means more revenue sharing, which means the owners cry poor even louder, which leads to..........

If Shane likes it so much in Phoenix and thinks it is a viable market he should throw in the $20 mil they are short.
