Concern Best will never be cleared

08:05 AM ET 08.01 | Jahvid Best, who said he feels great these days and is experiencing zero symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, believes he will be cleared to play. [GM Martin Mayhew] is similarly optimistic. What still cannot be answered is when. "I am a little surprised and a little disappointed that he's not already been cleared," Mayhew said. "Everything was trending toward him being ready to go the first day of camp and it didn't happen that way." ... It's been more than nine months since Best suffered his second concussion of the season last October. The fact that he still hasn't been cleared for contact leads to the concern that he never will be cleared. "Right now, it's a little early in the game to make that call," Mayhew said.

Another potential promising career ended too soon?

It is Best to be concerned about the old squash.

Very possible

He's having trouble with the post-concussion test:

1. What is your name?
2. What is your quest?
3. What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

If he answered that the speed of the swallow isn't as important as the fact that she swallowed, he's ok.

Time to find a real job.

This coming from the same Doctors who believe in pot addiction.

With Injuries , suspensions, jail, will the Lions have enough players to field a team?

What do you mean, an African or European Swallow?

August 1, 2012  09:14 AM ET

Best was quoted as saying he felt great and couldn't wait to get the 2011 season under way. And he'd like to thank Matt Millen for drafting him.

I think the ex- players suing the league over concussion related injuries is having an affect. Also, possibly, the high-profile suicides, although owners seem to react more to possibly losing money than they do to losing lives.

That's the "Truth" part of today's Truth and Rumors.

You could say the same about the players too...if it were up to Best, he'd play. Cant fault the owners for that..the players are the ones who ultimately decide to suit it up and play, pressured or not

I think he answered "shrubbery" for No. 2.

Best is probably finished. He had a horrendous concussion playing for CA and just seems snakebit, getting injured again. Then again with defensive players targeting injuries, he'd be out soon enough in any case.

August 1, 2012  11:50 AM ET

Best's attitude typifies that of all NFL players and is the reason why their lawsuit will be thrown out by any court it enters. These athletes have know from day one the dangers of playing football. They used to complain about the crippling leg injuries that had them wheelchair bound as old men, now it is directed at neural damage. They know what they are getting themselves into. Maybe there should be a film that would be mandatory for parents and players alike to watch, and sign release papers, the movie would address injury issues at every level of play and what short and long term physical effects might be experienced with each injury, it could also give a list of the best equipment available to provide for themselves or their children.

ANd perhaps a partridge in a pear tree

Doesn't the fact that Best still wants to play for the Lions seem to point towards post concussion syndrome? Catch-22 anybody?

Well I wish him... well, the best
