Odd man out if Vancouver signs Doan

08:24 AM ET 08.01 | Speculation persists that Shane Doan has interest in the Canucks. If the Phoenix captain loses patience with the ongoing uncertainty of the Coyotes' cloudy financial picture -- prospective owner Greg Jamison is reportedly $20 million (U.S. Dollars) short in purchase financing -- then six serious suitors lining up for his services may bite on a four-year, $30 million contract demand because Doan is a difference maker. At 35, he remains productive and durable, and is a force on the ice as well as in the locker room. A $7.5 million salary cap hit could be offset in the short term in Vancouver by trading Mason Raymond and his one-year, $2.275 million contract. The Canucks would obviously push for a Doan discount to keep their salary structure in order, but he has all the leverage.

Way too much money. However, the Canucks could use his leadership, give him the C and let the divers (Kesler, Burrows & Co.) learn from a true pro.

The Sedin sisters will run the Canucks for as long as they are there. If its going to take a $7.5 million cap hit then I hope the Pens don't get him.

Heck of a time for Hank to be on vacation.
