08:28 AM ET 08.01 | Michigan hockey fans received some good news earlier this week when defenseman Jon Merrill told coach Red Berenson he was returning for his junior year. Merrill, a second-round pick by New Jersey in 2010, participated in the Devils' prospect camp this summer. "Johnny talked with me this morning and indicated he'll be coming back," Berenson said Monday. "He definitely had some dialogue with New Jersey. Jon realized he only played half of the season and he wants to be ready when he makes the move. He wants to be competing for an NHL job when he does. He doesn't want to be playing in the minors. I think it's the right thing for him." Merrill missed the first half of the season due to a suspension and finished with two goals and 11 points in 19 games.

The Devils have 8 Dman signed to NHL contracts. So he chose Michigan over the AHL.

I hate it when someone makes a sensible, accurate, truthful comment. Watch it!

Kind of takes all the fun out of the thread, doesn't it?

That's good for my Wolverines, he's a great player. Not great enough to jump over the AHL however, so yes, he chose UM over AHL.

Well, let's see if their new goalie can fill in admirably. Hunwick will be hard to replace. Mentioning Hunwick makes me smile about him wearing his UM helmet for Columbus last year.

Wait, this is the perfect time for my BGM impression. Ehh hmm..."This guy's from Michigan and he doesn't want to even play for the Red Wings!?? Not even a guy playing in the state, drafted by another team, wants to play for the Wings! Everyone's abandoning ship."

Sorry but, they can't have Jonas Gustavsson. He'll be the starter with the Wings. :-)
