Bettman accuses NHLPA of dragging its feet

08:28 AM ET 08.01 | Gary Bettman said Tuesday that the NHL had "no intention of getting into a public debate on our proposals" after offering a clarification that the league had, in fact, addressed revenue sharing with the NHLPA. Bettman's explanation would suffice, except that two minutes earlier he already had engaged in a public debate regarding the players' request for additional club financial information prior to making their counterproposal. "The union has for quite some time had some substantial financial information," Bettman said. ... It sounded like Bettman believes the players are dragging their feet at the negotiating table, and the clock is ticking toward September 15, when the current CBA expires and a lockout almost certainly looms.

Dear Mr. Bettman,
On behalf of my fellow hockey fans accross the North America, please stop trying to be a tough guy. we all get it...you and the rich people you represent certainly seem to have more of the power in this fight, as evidenced by your ability to lock the players out, as has been done before. we implore you to be the bigger man here, and look at the larger picture. If everyone comes into the room snorting and scraping their feet like a charging bull, nothing will get done. If there is another lockout, getting a lot of the people "back" may not be so easy as it was, and the fan base here, whether or not you are aware of it...is a lot smaller than say, the NFL.
So for the good of the fans, the arena workers, the players and the owners...let's stop showing how tough we all are and get this done.
Thank you,
Spiny Norman

Dear Mr. Fehr,
On behalf of my fellow hockey fans accross the North America, please stop trying to be a tough guy. we all get it...you and the rich players you represent certainly seem to have more of the power in this fight, as evidenced by your ability to let the CBA expire and not work during negotiations, (talking about "fair pay" as if the salaries being paid for this line of work are anything resembling fair) as has been done before. we implore you to be the bigger man here, and look at the larger picture. If everyone comes into the room snorting and scraping their feet like a charging bull, nothing will get done. If there is another lockout, getting a lot of the people "back" may not be so easy as it was, and the fan base here, whether or not you are aware of it...is a lot smaller than say, the NFL.

I agree with Spiny. It doesn't accomplish anything to come at the negotiations with a lot of bluff and bluster. That having been said, I think the Buttgoblin has a point. We're into August already and the NHLPA hasn't made a counteroffer yet. Why do they need more financial data? Its not like they are going to ask for something reasonable. They're going to be just as ridiculous as the owners. Throw the proposal out there and start haggling already.

Lawyers what do you expect?

Is Bettman subtly accusing the players of slewfooting?

Regret to inform you Spiny....you are bringing reason to an ego fight

Good point, Fehr has to puff HIS chest out now.
I think he and Dwarfus horriblus should go out into an open field, punch each other silly, and the winner get the contract HIS way...
Of course, I feel the same way about world leaders too....
