08:12 AM ET 08.02 | With some time to reflect, Doc Rivers looks back and assigns blame to himself in setting into motion the events leading to Ray Allen's departure. [Rivers] told Yahoo! Sports that his decisions to relegate Allen to a sixth-man role and give point guard Rajon Rondo complete freedom with the ball and leadership were ultimately what helped lead Allen to leave Boston. ... "People can use all the Rondo stuff -- and it was there, no doubt about that -- but it was me more than Rondo," said Rivers. ... "I'm the guy who gave Rondo the ball. I'm the guy who decided that Rondo needed to be more of the leader of the team. That doesn't mean guys liked that -- and Ray did not love that -- because Rondo now had the ball all the time."

I have no respect for any team(s) that doesn't show sportsmanship by shaking hands after the game. Then again, all the Boston teams and their fans don't have any sportsmanship at all.

Doc had to choose who was going to run his offense, he made that decision and Allen leaves. Enough Said!

I appreciate him trying to take the bullet for what he perceives was a ray. Rondo feud........But bottom line is that it WAS doc who embarrassed the hell out of him for not giving him his starting job back. So it WAS doc's fault..... but not for the reason he gave

True..he's right and wrong at the same time.

I believe that when Allen returned from injury and Avery was playing ahead of him and seem to have a lock on his position, Allen pretty much decided at that point to move on. Allen never seemed to have a focus after returning and finding that he no longer had a lock on that position. Some players egos ase soo large they don't believe they would ever be replaced or their are better players other than themselves.

Chamberlain always said "with the money that players make today; if he was still playing the league would have to give an arena because his bar was soo high", super ego!

The C's acted just like the Pistons when Jordan led the Bulls beyond them in the Eastern Conference Finals. Jesus Shuttlesworth is chasing a ring and knows that the Heat are the beast in the East.

I blame Doc for his kid being a ball hog.

It may not have turned out the way he would have liked, but Doc made the right decision. The Celtics were only going as far as their 'quarterback' could take them. It may not have been wise to bench Allen, but giving the reigns to Rondo was defintely the right decision.

I get that Allen helped bring a ring to Boston, but does it really matter to them that he left? At this point Terry is a better player so they replaced him before he even left (not to mention having Bradley there as well). The only reason it's a story is because he left for Miami. He'll look better there because he'll have to do nothing but catch and shoot, and Terry is capable of doing more of what Boston needs given their roster so it's a win for both.

Long story short - Doc made a good coaching decision - Bye Ray!

so he was mad because he wasn't going to have the ball as much and leftand went to another team where he won't have the ball as muchum..what?

my thoughts exactly. It seems the move to MIA was as much about spite towards BOS as it was towards wanting to win in MIA. He will get less playing time and shots in MIA, yet in BOS it was a problem?
