08:14 AM ET 08.02 | Considering all the moving parts involved, the exact details of the Orlando Magic's long-range plan remain unclear. But whatever path the team follows, it will bear the imprint of the San Antonio Spurs' model. This past offseason, the Magic hired two products of the Spurs' wildly prolific tree, and Magic executives have said publicly that they hope to replicate the Spurs' success. On June 20, the Magic hired Rob Hennigan as their new general manager. Hennigan started his post-college career as a Spurs intern in 2004 and spent a total of four seasons with the organization. ... On Saturday, the Magic hired Jacque Vaughn as their new coach. Vaughn spent the last three seasons of his playing career in San Antonio and spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach.

I was thinking the same thing. Tim Duncan stands alone in modern sports, not just for his skill, but his loyalty and dedication to his team.

The Spurs model of success is also seen with OKC (Presti/Hennigan). The idea that you build your teams through the draft, with international players and with superstars that are committed to winning and willing to take fewer $$ to get there is something all small market teams should adopt. Trouble is, not as many organizations that are as smart as the Spurs.

There you go. Unless you have a David Robinson or a Tim Duncan - team-oriented stars to lead by example and with production - the Spurs way will be a lot like the Timberwolves' way or the Kings' way.

It does if you are a team that can afford to go over the lux-tax limit by $15mil or more each year. Not that I'm saying that's bad. LA is a big market team and should do as such.

the problem with this is, that there are very few players that view loyalty over money. The majority will take an extra 10k and follow the money rather than take 10k less and stay in a city. Duncan and durant are the exception, not the rule..
