Mattingly raises concerns

08:15 AM ET 08.02 | The Dodgers made some moves to shore up their lineup prior to the deadline, which isn't to say everyone's feeling great about the roster. [The] rotation has suddenly become the biggest issue for Los Angeles. The front office was unable to land the frontline starter -- like Ryan Dempster -- that it was seeking, and there are questions as to whether the current rotation will be good enough down the stretch. "I still think it's a concern," manager Don Mattingly said. "I think we have to pay attention and keep trying to get better. Look at the track record of [Chris] Capuano and Aaron [Harang] and obviously with Stephen [Fife] we don't know very much. We know [Clayton] Kershaw. Does it hold up?"

I guess we will have to play some games to find out whether or not the rotation holds up. If LA scores some runs that will help the rotation quite a bit

They get a couple of young strong arms up from the minors in September!

The Dodgers could be a good team come September, but they still have holes. After Kershaw, they have a bunch of No. 3-4 types in the rotation, Loney is below average, and the infield is subpar at best.
But stranger things have happened.

LA now has the hitters but SF still has better pitching, you know what they say pitching and defense wins games if true you have to like the Giants over the Dodgers to win the division.

Capuano was looking good earlier in the season, but he's been sucking arse for the better part of the last two months.

He faded with The Mets last Year, he probably needs 5-6 days off between games!

I miss Don Mattingly....I was just thinking the other day how he hit 10 home runs in 8 games (several grand slams) and what an awesome player he was. First class guy, a great fit for LA.

Not a bad idea--give some of the rookies a few starts.

Yeah that's great except statistically the Giants have the worst defense in the NL.

And the Dodger staff has a lower ERA (3.38 v 3.5) and about the same BAA.

They need more then just pitching, the last 3 games, sucked, no one seems to be hitting the ball past the infield.....Hopefully it comes around soon....

Mattingly, the team has more problems than just pitching theirs also inconsistent hitting. The blame lands on you and your coaching staff. If the pitchers are playing up to snuff then it's up to Honeycutt to find the problems and fix it. And the players are not getting hits then it's up to your hitting coach to find the problem and fix it. FYI the Angels fired their hitting coach now they are lighting up the score board compared to the beginning of the season.

Hitting is hard. I blame the guy with the bat more than the guy telling the guy with the bat how to "fix the problem".
Hitting coaches are overrated. Especially by you.
