Loser in Dolphins QB race may be cut loose

08:06 AM ET 08.03 | Not only is Ryan Tannehill playing for his own future, but his success may also be yoked to the futures of David Garrard and Matt Moore. While all three quarterbacks will be given a chance to win the job, it's not a given that all three quarterbacks will be on the roster for Week 1. While the likeliest scenario has Tannehill serving in the No. 3 role this year, a league source with knowledge of the Dolphins' front office said the Dolphins have considered every contingency at quarterback, and one of them is carrying Tannehill as the No. 2 quarterback if he plays well enough in the preseason and proves that he could handle himself this year if called upon to play. If Tannehill does play well, it could make either Moore or Garrard expendable.

So?

In other words, the "loser" wins.

Adios, Garrard...

August 3, 2012  08:18 AM ET

I am sure one of them can get a backup job quickly if/when they are cut.

and yet they drafted Tannehill in the 8 slot. brilliant move.

Not as bad as Seattle, I think. Sign a guy in free agency then spend a pretty high round pick on another QB.

the common denominator is they are both playing for last place.

I'm just so happy to have teams (plural) like this with quarterback woes in my division.

Or second, depending on who else in their division does face plants into the turf every week.

"You mean, if I suck now I could end up on a better team?"

Shades of Chinese Women's Badminton.

Sad thing is either of them could win the backup job in Atlanta

August 3, 2012  09:05 AM ET

So does this mean, they're sticking with the Wildcat since they won't have a QB this season?

Seattle basically hit the offseason without a QB. They needed a few pieces. Not saying what they did isn't questionable but maybe Flynn is the guy and they can either develop Wilson enough to have some good trade value. Both have some upside and a lot of ??? but when you have nothing, it may be better to take the John Gruden approach and start collecting.
