Phillies' Lee on the block

08:15 AM ET 08.03 | This time of year, the waiver wire will make for interesting watching. [Should Cliff Lee pass through, Philadelphia] will be able to trade Lee from then until Aug. 31, and it will mean that not a single team was willing to assume Lee's massive contract. ... Sources from two teams that before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline engaged Philadelphia about Lee came away from the conversation believing that the Phillies certainly would be willing to deal Lee, just not for a reasonable return. Yet. And that is why his likely passing through waivers this early in the month matters: Teams will have four weeks to entice the Phillies into giving Lee away.

The LA Dodgers looks like the only team out there who didn't get pitching help might be interested in Lee, if the price is right.

Yeah. As much as a Lee supporter as I am, it would be one hell of a risk for a team to take on his contract at this point. If a team were to take on his contract as it stands, they'd be on the hook for an average of $29.2m per year for the next three seasons. That does not include the $7m or so due for the rest of the year.
I have to imagine that he will clear waivers and then we'll see how motivated the Phillies are to move him. I figure they're going to have to eat a fair portion of his contract and settle for less in return than they'd like to.

He's a damn good pitcher, but that paper he's due is just bad, Ruben Amaro bad.

He'll clear waivers. I doubt any team would risk claiming that contract. The Phillies just might say"OK, he's yours." That's how the Yankees wound up with Canseco several years ago. They claimed him when the Rays waived him to keep Boston from getting him. They were shocked when the Rays didn't pull him back. The Yanks forgot they were dealing with the cheapest owner in baseball.

Wow...BushIsRight. You are a absolute and complete idiot with the mentality of a 6th grader. May god forgive you, because I'm sure you will need all the help you can get at your day of reckoning. You act like some big tough guy behind the keyboard, but in reality you most likely 40 years old and live in your parents basement while mommy brings you pizza rolls for lunch. Go back to playing with the action figures, this is a big boys conversation

We don't call people on this thread idiots, people who call other people names have problems explaining themselves and that's sad that you can't do that in a more human manner, by the way I've been a republican all my life and no Bush has ever been right when it comes to sports including long lost Brother Neal!

Cliff Lee better stay in Philadelphia, Reuben should not have traded him the first time and then paid more to get him back. He almost did another bonehead move with Cole, paying him all that money because of waiting and almost lost him too. Dump Reuben and Howard who has done nothing, get rid of his salary!!! KEEP CLIFF LEE, he wants to play here and we want him!!!

Treat me with respect and you will get the same. BushIsRight calling an entire city a "bunch of losers" ( which is where I come from) and that's a personal attack, also calling Cliff Lee a "loser" (personal attack). and trash . Cliff Lee happens to donate millions of dollars to the children's hosp for a disease that my own child has, and yes I will take exception and fire back. I noticed you didn't "reprimand" bushIsRight now did you? So the next time I will make sure I call him the LOSER that he is (which seems to be ok with you) , instead of a idiot if that makes everyone feel better. Even though, I'm really not sure if there is a difference in calling someone a loser or a idiot, both the same to me.

Lee and Kershaw would make a might nice 1-2 punch in the playoffs if the Dodgers can work out the deal. Imagine a seven games series and having to face those two lefties twice...four games of the potential seven. Good luck with that.
