Only one conference in the title hunt

08:20 AM ET 08.03 | So much for parity. No matter what you think of the [SEC's] record six consecutive national championships, the achievement has become historic, if not monopolistic. And it doesn't look like the run is going to end anytime soon. ... The same LSU that was No. 1 for 11 weeks and won its first 13 games in 2011, will start No. 1 in CBSSports.com preseason poll. The shouldn't overshadow the fact that Alabama is completely capable of defending its national championship. Or that Arkansas arguably has its best team in 35 years. Or that East Division favorite Georgia held LSU without a first down in the first half of last year's SEC title game. Or that South Carolina is coming off a school-record 11 wins.

Ha Ha CBS Sports just p|mping their client!

Of course they will. Can't help but extend it cuz it will be another LSU/Bama NCG.

But, it's a Bama lock.

Thought it was ESPN? Now it's CBS Sports? Going to be Rival or Fox Sports next?

LOL

Quite an advantage in the NCAA version of deciding titles by invitation and voting, if you start the season in the "top ten" with out having to play a game.

Yeah CBS shares SEC rights with ESPN and their coverage is way-y-y-y over-the-top. Verne Lundquist anyone?

Fox Sports? HA they've got a lot to learn! They're the worst TV partner a conference could have, except for the money.

I think at the end of the year they won't have anything to say about it. I think OU has a better chance. Just my opinion.

To do that, either or both OU and USC have to end their habit of crapping their beds when they shouldn't ala Texas Tech and Arizona State in 2011. Just sayin'.

This exactly...the main reason polls shouldn't be used for <hit. Trouble is the damn selection committee will probably be influenced by them too!

I am sure they will be but do you really think they will look back at preseason polls to be influenced?

August 3, 2012  09:01 AM ET

How about we just play the games and then see who looks good?

If that preseason poll had "traditional" names at the top of it, absolutely.

Too logical.

... and it would make for a boring headline. "Only one conference in the title hunt" stirs the pot better.
